The Perfect StormThis film is related to weather because it involved the weather phenomenon of 3 raging weather fronts: Hurricane Grace, extra-tropical cyclone and an extra-tropical storm. The weather plays a major role in this film, the fisherman especially the captain is strong headed in returning home with a large amount of fish. Their trip to the Grand Banks, resulted in their disappointment because their plan of filling the ship quickly was not turning out to be as easy as they thought, therefore they continued to travel further away into the sea. The Captain decided to try Flemish Cap which to his surprise was rewarding. The holds were filled with enough fish to give each fisherman the paycheck they were looking forward to. At their peak of success in their journey, their ice machine broke down, it suddenly became very important to get home as soon as possible because anything that they were to catch would result in spoilage by the time they returned to port.

For a Hurricane to form it needs to go through specific stages, the stages are tropical wave, tropical depression, tropical storm, and hurricane. Hurricane Grace originally lacked deep convection, it was not until an area of clouds near the Bermuda became convective, that it developed circulation into a subtropical storm. Hurricane Grace reached a peak wind of 105 mph which categorized it as a category 2 hurricane. It was on track heading northwestward until it approached an extra-tropical cyclone.
Hurricane Grace merging with the extra-tropical cyclone allowed for it to intensify and influenced Grace's steering currents, redirecting it sharply east. Hurricane Grace continued to strengthen because of the contrast of temperatures between cold air from the northwest and the warmth and humidity remains from Hurricane Grace merge. scene of meteorologist explaining the weather occurring

As Hurricane Grace continued to travel northeast is soon approached a rapid cold front that quickly undermined the tropical storm lower-level center, which resulted in losing its status as a tropical system. Hurricane Grace was quickly absorbed by the passing extra-tropical storm.
Therefore, the nor'easter continued to strengthen based off the contrast between the cold air of the northwest and the warm air alongside the humidity remains of Hurricane Grace. The cyclone reached winds up to 75 mph creating waves that were estimated at 39 feet high. (Leberfinger) Thus, resulting in the perfect storm. |

I truly feel that the film did a very good job of depicting the actual events that occurred. The information that was presented in the film conveyed correctly with the weather reports that were being presented by the National Hurricane Association during those events. Although I think that I cannot ignore the fact that the hurricane in the film was presented to be a category 5 when in reality Hurricane Grace started off being a category 1 hurricane, until its wind speed increased resulting in it being a category 2. Which I believe that was done to exaggerate the situation at hand.
